The sad truth about sharing your dreams is that by doing so you will often be ridiculed.
Your friends and loved ones most likely want only the best for you but often have a problem understanding your vision of what it is you truly desire for yourself. They will point out all the possible pitfalls in your plan in order to protect you from being disappointed with the outcome of what they may think is unrealistic dreaming on your part.
This same idea will also apply to your motivation. I’m sure you’ve experienced, as I have, a time when you were really jazzed about some idea and really feeling great, only to be made fun of by someone you were close to. How quickly did that deflate your excitement and great mood?
Unfortunately, the only person you can rely on to sustain your motivation is, YOU. People tend to completely dismiss anything they don’t quite understand.
Controlling your impulse to share your ideas and the innermost workings of your mind with those close to you will help you maintain your motivation.
When you have a solid mind-set and an unshakeable focus towards implementing your goals, then no-one’s opinion will have the ability to stop you. So, until you are in that unshakeable place, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!
When you get an almost irresistible urge to share what you’re working on, stop and ask yourself why. Often it’s because you are not as certain of your abilities as you think you are and are looking for some outside reinforcement. But the advice you get will often cause you to distrust yourself more rather than help you to work through any self-doubt you may have.
Figure out ways to increase your own motivation rather than relying on other people to do it for you. Hold your vision in the forefront of your mind, use affirmations to bolster your self-esteem but most of all, keep moving forward one step at a time.
The only people you should seek advice or encouragement from are those who have achieved what it is you are striving to achieve!
Ultimately you will find that you have developed a strong inner knowing that you can do what it is you want to do and then no one will be able to shake your motivation towards accomplishing your goal.
